November 20, 2023: Chapter 3 of our Adoption Story

The Eve of Maybe Baby’s birth!

This day is almost a complete blur to me. I know I worked some at the office but I don’t remember how long. Whatever I worked I can assure you I wasn’t focused! I remember as I left the office for the day I got a call from my social worker. “Congratulations, you’re having a girl!” I was SO excited about having another little girl. I called my parents first and told them they were having a granddaughter and they immediately went out and started clothes shopping- even my dad. Lots of pinks and purples and Christmas!

I dropped Annora off at our friend’s house after school so she could have a play date. I went and bought birth mom a gift, which is customary, but a complete surprise that my social worker casually dropped during the aforementioned phone call. After I found the perfect gift, I called in the troops to help! I needed flowers for birth mom. I needed to wash Annie’s clothes. I needed to pack my bag. I needed to cook dinner for our out-of-state family that had just arrived for the Thanksgiving holiday. I needed to pack a diaper bag, as I fraught over which diaper rash medicine I would use and what bottles she might like. You get my drift- I was stressed out and way behind! But my circle came through like a well-oiled machine. The night flowed flawlessly. I packed the car and tried without success to get some sleep. Tomorrow was a big day and induction was set for 8:30am! Tomorrow I would meet my daughter!
